The benefits of Pilates

Pilates became immediately very popular amongst dancers and performers in New York, where the first Pilates studio opened, but it is actually our current sedentary lifestyle that dramatically needs Pilates! The good news is that Pilates address underlying structural imbalances in the body which can create pain and difficulty with movement. Let’s see how:

Posture and Overall Fitness

We sit and/or drive for long periods of time, rarely allowing our muscles to move fully, in the way they would naturally do. We have limited our body actions to certain routines performed at the gym, or in our leisure time, perhaps, but what about the daily movements?

Pilates will also encourage you to think about them and transform your life through movements – natural, controlled, healthful, fluid, and graceful. Joseph Pilates’ method was inspired by the way cats and babies move: fluid, in harmony, without strains or bad postural habits.

Reach Specific Goals

Pilates will help you achieve your goals, from specific fitness goals to rehab goals after surgery or injuries. It will also improve your overall flexibility, tone your stomach, strengthen your back and lengthen and stretch your muscles.
Regular Pilates practise can help improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension.

Prevents Injuries

Pilates helps prevent injury and complement other sport activities through low impact, mid range exercises that won’t affect the joints or strain the muscles.

Aid Rehabilitation

Pilates aids in the rehabilitation of many specialised conditions including; Pregnancy, Sports Injuries, Spinal Conditions and Disc Issues, Hip & Knee Replacement, MS, Parkinson’s, RSI.

Improves Confidence

Pilates also helps build confidence and improve physical abilities, body awareness and quality of life through movement. It also increases your energy level and your stamina.

Supports Your Back

Regularly participating in Pilates can naturally help your body combat back issues, which are the effect of overworking or underworking the muscles. Your regular sessions will help to ensure a healthy back and hips late into life.
